Description
42.4% of 8,866 pregnant women surveyed across ten Chinese medical facilities utilized free preconception care between July 2023 and July 2024. The dataset, created by Xiaodong Wu and shared under CC-BY-4.0, applies machine learning and SHAP analysis to decompose disparities into individual 'effort' and structural 'circumstance' factors. Findings indicate individual factors like pregnancy intention and knowledge accounted for 74.1–93.6% of explained variation, while structural factors remained influential, especially for vulnerable subgroups.
Use Cases
Train predictive models for preconception care uptake based on survey variables like pregnancy intention and PCC knowledge.
Apply SHAP decomposition to quantify the relative contribution of structural versus individual factors to health disparities.
Conduct subgroup analyses on PCC utilization stratified by education level, urban-rural residence, and pregnancy intention status.
Evaluate the impact of annual PCC promotion campaigns at local maternal and child health institutions on service uptake.
Strengths
Includes survey data from 8,866 pregnant women, providing a substantial sample size.
Applies three machine learning models and SHAP analysis for explainable factor decomposition.
Covers a specific one-year time range from July 1, 2023, to July 1, 2024.
Conducted across ten medical facilities in China, suggesting multi-center representation.
