Description
405 survey participants, 12 expert interviews, and 6 focus groups with 35 participants were analyzed to examine media literacy levels among vulnerable groups in Ecuador regarding AI-generated electoral disinformation for the 2025 presidential elections. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining descriptive statistics, non-parametric tests, and qualitative thematic analysis. The dataset, authored by Abel Suing and last updated in May 2026, is shared under a CC-BY-4.0 license.
Use Cases
Analyze correlations between demographic factors and the perceived impact of disinformation based on survey results.
Study the relationship between the capacity to identify AI-generated content and the valuation of media literacy as a mitigation mechanism.
Investigate differentiated vulnerabilities to disinformation across rural groups, older adults, and women based on the qualitative and quantitative findings.
Model the 'cascade perception' where recognition of informational harm activates demand for institutional regulation.
Strengths
Mixed-methods design combining quantitative data from 405 survey participants with qualitative insights from 12 expert interviews and 6 focus groups.
Explicit focus on vulnerable population groups (rural inhabitants, women, older adults) in a specific national context (Ecuador).
Analysis includes descriptive statistics, non-parametric tests, correlations, and thematic analysis, suggesting a structured analytical approach.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale statistical modeling.
The dataset is small (296.3 KB), indicating limited scope, likely containing summary findings or a codebook rather than raw individual-level data.
