Description
690 4th and 5th-grade students from 10 elementary schools in Washington, DC, and Kentucky completed the Food Literacy BITE scale and food frequency questionnaires. The dataset, authored by Christine St. Pierre and last updated in June 2026, was used to validate the scale's ability to differentiate literacy by grade, sex, and food education exposure. It likely contains survey responses and aggregated food consumption frequencies.
Use Cases
Validate the Food Literacy BITE scale's measurement invariance across different demographic groups based on the described confirmatory factor analysis.
Compare mean food literacy scores by grade, sex, and food education exposure history as detailed in the results.
Investigate associations between food literacy scores and food group consumption frequencies using the aggregated school-grade level data.
Identify dimensions of food literacy, such as 'confidence in everyday food skills' or 'valuing shared food experiences', that are most impacted by educational programs.
Strengths
Dataset includes responses from 690 students, providing a substantive sample size for analysis.
