Description
228,310 unigenes were identified from a de novo transcriptome assembly of three Kentucky bluegrass cultivars with contrasting wax-associated epidermal structures. The dataset, authored by Xue You and last updated in May 2026, includes results from phenotyping, differential expression analysis, and candidate gene validation. Pairwise comparisons revealed between 7,257 and 29,713 differentially expressed genes.
Use Cases
Identify candidate regulatory genes for drought adaptation based on expression concordance with wax-density gradients.
Analyze hormone signal transduction pathways based on enrichment patterns in differentially expressed genes.
Validate gene function predictions based on phenotypic data from transgenic overexpression lines.
Correlate transcriptomic changes with physiological stress indicators like ROS staining and antioxidant enzyme activities.
Strengths
Transcriptome assembly has a BUSCO completeness score of 76.8%.
Includes phenotypic data from scanning electron microscopy and water-withholding assays across three cultivars.
Candidate gene validation is supported by qRT-PCR and transgenic overexpression experiments.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The description notes that direct wax composition quantification and cuticular water-loss assays are not included, limiting mechanistic conclusions.
