Description
Flood-extracted areas represent land protected from natural flooding by dikes and sections, produced for the EPINAL GIS High Flood Risk Land Flood Directive. The dataset is used to produce flood hazard and risk maps for three probability levels (high, medium, low) to support flood risk management plans under European Directive 2007/60/EC. It was created by the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières and last updated on April 1, 2019.
Use Cases
Generate flood hazard maps based on the described flood-extracted areas.
Assess territorial vulnerability based on the three levels of flood probability (high, medium, low).
Develop quantitative evidence for flood risk management plans (PGRIs) as mandated by the EU directive.
Homogenize and objectify knowledge of flood exposure across territories.
Strengths
Produced for a formal reporting purpose under the European Floods Directive (2007/60/EC).
Designed to provide quantitative evidence for three distinct flood probability levels.
Created by a recognized geological and mining research organization (BRGM).
