Description
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) will observe several Deep Drilling Fields (DDFs). The DeepDrill survey used the Spitzer Space Telescope Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) to observe three of the four currently defined DDFs in two infrared bands (3.6 um and 4.5 um). This catalog, from NASA, combines these observations with earlier SERVS data to cover the footprints of the LSST DDFs in the ECDFS, ES1, and XMM-LSS fields.
Use Cases
Training machine learning models for galaxy classification based on infrared photometry.
Conducting multi-wavelength cross-matching studies with other survey data mentioned for the DDFs.
Analyzing the spatial distribution of infrared sources in deep extragalactic fields.
Preparing data pipelines for future LSST observations by studying precursor infrared data.
Strengths
Observations are from the Spitzer Space Telescope Infrared Array Camera (IRAC), a well-established instrument.
Data combines DeepDrill and SERVS surveys to cover the full footprints of three LSST Deep Drilling Fields.
Catalog is associated with a specific astronomical program (ID 11086) and principal investigator.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The description does not specify the exact temporal coverage of the observations.
