South Australia's Gidgealpa No. 1 well was drilled in 1963 by Delhi Australian Petroleum Ltd and Santos Limited. The well reached a total depth of 13,114 feet and provided new geological information on the Permian and Cambrian sequences in the Great Artesian Basin. The operation was subsidized under the Petroleum Search Subsidy Act.
