Description
A 2014 survey collected bathymetry and backscatter data via full-coverage multibeam sonar in the Northern North Sea. The data, archived with the Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN), includes WGS84 coordinates, depths corrected to Chart Datum, and processed georeferenced mosaics and GeoTiffs. The British Geological Survey (BGS) is the listed organization for this dataset.
Use Cases
Model seabed topography and morphology based on bathymetry data.
Analyze seabed composition and texture based on backscatter data.
Create high-resolution georeferenced maps for marine conservation zones based on the mosaics and GeoTiffs.
Conduct baseline studies for offshore renewable energy projects based on the survey coverage.
Strengths
Data includes both raw and processed formats, with georeferenced mosaics and GeoTiffs.
Coordinates are collected by Differential Global Positioning System (D-GPS) and depths are corrected to Chart Datum.
Data is archived with multiple Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN) Data Archive Centres.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to a single 2014 survey.
