Description
Full coverage multibeam survey data collected to International Hydrographic Organization Order 1a standard between March 17 and 30, 2012. The dataset includes bathymetry, backscatter, and processed georeferenced mosaics delivered to the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science. These data are archived with the Marine Environmental Data and Information Network and the British Geological Survey.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed bathymetry based on multibeam survey data
Analyzing seabed composition and texture based on backscatter data
Creating habitat maps based on georeferenced mosaics and GeoTiffs
Conducting marine spatial planning based on high-resolution survey data for the Mid St Georges Channel
Strengths
Data collected to International Hydrographic Organization Order 1a standard, indicating high positional and depth accuracy
Includes both raw and processed data, along with georeferenced mosaics and GeoTiff images
Archived with multiple Marine Environmental Data and Information Network Data Archive Centres, ensuring long-term preservation
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific survey area in the Irish Sea
