Description
A full coverage multibeam survey collected bathymetry and backscatter data to International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) Order 1a standard in the Irish Sea from 24/02/2012 to 31/03/2012. High and low frequency side scan sonar data were collected in two specific locations (SCC1 & SCC2). The data, including raw and processed files with georeferenced mosaics and GeoTiffs, were delivered to the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) and are archived with the Marine Environmental Data and Information Network (MEDIN).
Use Cases
Model seabed topography based on bathymetry data collected to IHO Order 1a standard.
Analyze seabed composition and texture based on backscatter and side scan sonar data.
Create habitat maps based on georeferenced mosaics and GeoTiff images.
Assess survey accuracy based on cross lines run at 20 times the spacing of main lines.
Strengths
Data collected to International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) Order 1a standard, indicating a defined quality level.
Includes both multibeam bathymetry/backscatter and side scan sonar data from two locations, suggesting multiple sensor types.
Cross lines were run at 20 times the spacing of main lines, which may help assess data accuracy.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale ML tasks.
