Automated Streamflow Monitoring Data Using Particle Image Velocimetry

An automated system uses particle image velocimetry (PIV) to estimate streamflow multiple times daily, facilitating rating curve development for remote sites. This represents the first use of an automated PIV system for small streams under 5 meters wide and the first to automatically distribute particles for analysis. The research was funded by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the Canada-Ontario Agreement Fund, and the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology.
