Description
Philippines coral reef sites in Batangas were monitored from May 21-31, 2015, using autonomous instrument packages. The NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center collected in-situ measurements of salinity, temperature, pressure, pH, dissolved oxygen, and current dynamics, alongside water samples for laboratory analysis of dissolved inorganic carbon and total alkalinity. This dataset enables the calculation of key carbonate system parameters like pCO2 and aragonite saturation state.
Use Cases
Analyzing diurnal variability in pH and carbonate saturation states at specific reef sites using time-series pH and calculated aragonite saturation state.
Correlating physical water conditions like temperature and salinity with calculated pCO2 levels to understand local drivers of acidification.
Assessing current flow patterns and their potential influence on local carbonate chemistry using Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) data.
Validating carbonate system models by comparing calculated parameters (pH, pCO2) with direct measurements from water samples analyzed for DIC and TA.
Strengths
Data includes direct field measurements from specialized sensors (SeaFET pH, SBE-43 oxygen) alongside laboratory-validated water samples for DIC and TA.
Deployments captured at least 24 hours of continuous data at each site, enabling analysis of diel cycles in reef chemistry.
Instrument suite is detailed, including CTD, ADCP, pH sensor, oxygen sensor, and programmable water samplers, providing a multi-faceted view of the reef environment.
Limitations
Key quantitative details like row count, file size, and complete column list are unavailable from all sources.
Conflicting last updated dates exist between sources (2015-05-31 and 2026-03-05), suggesting possible metadata inconsistencies.
