Description
Digital Earth Australia (DEA) is a world-first analysis platform for satellite imagery and Earth observations, developed by the Australian Government. It builds on the award-winning Australian Geoscience Data Cube, a partnership between Geoscience Australia, CSIRO, and the National Computational Infrastructure. The platform processes data to track changes across Australia, identifying soil erosion, crop growth, water quality, and urban changes.
Use Cases
Monitor soil and coastal erosion based on satellite imagery analysis described in the platform.
Track crop growth and agricultural potential using Earth observation data.
Assess water quality changes across Australian regions from processed satellite data.
Analyze urban development and changes to cities from detailed change tracking.
Strengths
Builds on the Australian Geoscience Data Cube, winner of the 2016 Content Platform of the Year at the Geospatial World Leadership Awards.
Developed as a partnership between Geoscience Australia, CSIRO, and the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI).
Designed to track changes across Australia in unprecedented detail.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
