Description
Digital Earth Australia is a national analysis platform for Earth observation satellite data. It is designed to track changes across Australia, identifying soil and coastal erosion, crop growth, water quality, and urban changes. The platform builds on the award-winning Australian Geoscience Data Cube, developed by Geoscience Australia, CSIRO, and the National Computational Infrastructure.
Use Cases
Monitor soil and coastal erosion based on satellite imagery analysis mentioned in the description
Track crop growth and agricultural potential based on change detection capabilities
Assess water quality changes in Australian water bodies based on Earth observation data
Analyze urban expansion and changes to cities and regions based on time-series satellite data
Strengths
Platform builds on the Australian Geoscience Data Cube, winner of the 2016 Content Platform of the Year award
Partnership involves major national institutions: Geoscience Australia, CSIRO, and the National Computational Infrastructure
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
