Description
Linear features represent six classes of geological structural features and landforms across Great Britain, with data existing for 167 10x10km tiles. The British Geological Survey (BGS) produced this data, with most primary mapping carried out at 1:10,000 scale and some areas mapped at 1:25,000. Another batch of tiles was added in 2012 to bring the total to 167 for this version 2 release.
Use Cases
Model subsurface fault networks based on fault line data.
Analyze glacial history based on landform features like drumlins and eskers.
Correlate stratigraphic sequences based on fossil horizon markers.
Map alteration zones around structural features like dykes.
Identify key marker beds, such as coal seams or marine bands, for geological mapping.
Strengths
Data covers 167 10x10km tiles across Great Britain.
Features are categorized into seven distinct geological classes (e.g., faults, folds, landforms).
Most primary mapping was conducted at a detailed 1:10,000 scale.
Limitations
Coverage is described as 'limited' within Great Britain.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
