Description
Linear geological features of Great Britain represent six classes of structural features and landforms, including faults, folds, and glacial channels. The data are organized into seven categories such as Alteration area, Fault, Fold, Fossil horizons, Mineral vein, Landforms, and Rock. It is produced by the British Geological Survey and is available in vector format under a BGS data licence.
Use Cases
Model subsurface fault networks based on the fault and alteration area features
Analyze glacial landscape evolution based on landform features like drumlins and eskers
Correlate stratigraphic sequences based on fossil horizon and rock (marker bed) features
Map mineral resource potential based on mineral vein and alteration area features
Strengths
Data covers the entire landmass of Great Britain.
Features are categorized into seven distinct geological classes (e.g., Fault, Fold, Landforms).
Data is provided in a structured vector format (ESRI shapefile) with linked attribute records.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to uk_data.
