Description
Digital Hemispheric Photography (DHP) upward-looking images are collected up to three times per year to capture vegetation cover at the Boyagin Wandoo Woodland SuperSite. The site was established in 2017 in a Wandoo Woodland surrounded by farming, with about 80% of the overstorey cover being Eucalyptus accedens. These images, provided by the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN), can be used to estimate Leaf Area Index (LAI), Crown Cover, or Foliage Projective Cover (FPC).
Use Cases
Estimate Leaf Area Index (LAI) based on upward-looking hemispherical photographs.
Calculate Crown Cover or Foliage Projective Cover (FPC) based on canopy gap fraction analysis.
Monitor long-term vegetation changes in a Wandoo Woodland ecosystem based on images collected up to three times per year.
Study the structure and composition of a woodland dominated by Eucalyptus accedens based on site-specific imagery.
Strengths
Images are collected up to three times per year, providing repeated temporal sampling.
Site has a known overstorey composition, with about 80% Eucalyptus accedens.
Data is associated with a long-term ecosystem monitoring supersite established in 2017.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to a single woodland site in Australia.
