Description
The MRI Ryofu Maru III dataset includes chemical, meteorological, and physical surface underway data collected from the RYOFU MARU research vessel. Data were gathered in the North Pacific Ocean and Philippine Sea between October 20, 1997, and July 12, 1999. Hisayuki Y. Inoue of Hokkaido University and Masao Ishii of the Meteorological Research Institute collected these data, which include dissolved inorganic carbon, alkalinity, salinity, sea surface temperature, air temperature, barometric pressure, and wind measurements.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean carbon uptake and acidification based on dissolved inorganic carbon and total alkalinity measurements.
Analyzing air-sea gas exchange dynamics based on concurrent sea surface temperature, wind speed, and barometric pressure data.
Studying regional hydrographic variability in the North Pacific based on salinity and temperature observations.
Calibrating and validating autonomous sensor data for dissolved inorganic carbon.
Strengths
Data span a multi-year time range from 1997-10-20 to 1999-07-12.
Includes multiple concurrent variable types: chemical, physical, and meteorological.
Associated with three specific cruise IDs (RF9709, RF9901, RF9906), providing clear expedition context.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data format is listed as HTML, which may not be optimal for direct analysis.
