Chemical, physical, and profile data were collected from the KNORR research vessel in the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean from September to November 2003. The dataset includes measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon, alkalinity, chlorofluorocarbons, isotopes, nutrients, and water properties. It was collected by researchers from NOAA PMEL, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and RSMAS as part of the CLIVAR Global Ocean Carbon and Repeat Hydrography Program.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon uptake and storage based on dissolved inorganic carbon and alkalinity measurements.
- Analyzing historical trends of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in the Atlantic Ocean.
- Studying nutrient distributions (nitrate, phosphate, silicate) in relation to ocean circulation.
- Calibrating biogeochemical models using stable isotope data (delta carbon-13, delta carbon-14).
- Assessing water column properties using concurrent measurements of temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen.
Strengths
- Data covers a specific cruise period from 2003-09-22 to 2003-11-13.
- Includes a wide range of chemical and physical parameters, such as CFCs, carbon isotopes, nutrients, and hydrographic variables.
- Associated with two specific cruise IDs: CLIVAR_A20_2003 and CLIVAR_A22_2003.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
- Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to a single research cruise.
