From June 13 to July 14, 1996, chemical and physical oceanographic data were collected from the METEOR research vessel in the North Atlantic Ocean. The dataset includes measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon, alkalinity, nutrients, and temperature retrieved during cruise 06MT19960613. It was collected by researchers from GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel and others as part of the CARINA synthesis project.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon uptake based on dissolved inorganic carbon and alkalinity measurements.
- Analyzing nutrient distributions (nitrate, phosphate, silicate) for biogeochemical studies.
- Investigating water column properties using CTD-derived temperature, salinity, and pressure profiles.
- Calibrating ocean carbon system models using the internally consistent CARINA merged dataset.
Strengths
- Data collected during a dedicated research cruise (06MT19960613) over a focused one-month period.
- Includes key carbon system variables (ALKALINITY, DISSOLVED INORGANIC CARBON) and complementary nutrients.
- Part of the CARINA international synthesis project aiming for internal consistency.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
- Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to a single cruise in the North Atlantic.
