Chemical, physical, and profile data collected from the KAIYO-MARU research vessel during cruise WOCE_P02T. The dataset includes measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, alkalinity, chlorofluorocarbons, and other variables in the North Pacific Ocean and Philippine Sea. It was collected by Ono Tsuneo of the Hokkaido National Fisheries Research Institute as part of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) Hydrographic Program.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon uptake and acidification based on dissolved inorganic carbon and pH measurements
- Analyzing historical chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) distributions for ocean circulation studies
- Calibrating biogeochemical models using nitrate, phosphate, and silicate profiles
- Studying water column properties using potential temperature and salinity data
Strengths
- Data is part of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE), a major international climate research program
- Includes multiple key ocean chemistry variables (alkalinity, CFCs, DIC, nutrients) measured simultaneously
- Coverage spans a specific research cruise (WOCE_P02T) with known instruments (CTD, bottle)
Limitations
- Last updated 1994-02-10; freshness should be verified
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
