North Pacific Ocean, Philippine Sea, and South Pacific Ocean data collected from the KEIFU MARU vessel during cruise KS01-01 from January to March 2001. The dataset includes dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, alkalinity, temperature, salinity, nutrients, and chlorofluorocarbons, measured using CTD and bottle instruments. It was collected by Tetsuya Nakamura and Masao Ishii as part of the PACIFICA international collaborative project.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean acidification trends based on pH and dissolved inorganic carbon measurements
- Analyzing nutrient cycling in marine ecosystems based on nitrate, phosphate, and silicate concentrations
- Studying chlorofluorocarbon distribution as ocean tracers based on CFC-11 and CFC-12 data
- Investigating phytoplankton biomass based on chlorophyll a and phaeophytin levels
- Calculating carbon isotope ratios based on delta carbon-13 measurements
Strengths
- Data covers three major ocean regions: North Pacific Ocean, Philippine Sea, and South Pacific Ocean
- Includes over 20 measured variables, including key carbon cycle parameters and nutrients
- Collection period is precisely defined from 2001-01-19 to 2001-03-09
- Data originates from an international collaborative project (PACIFICA) supported by PICES
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Freshness should be verified; last metadata update was 2026-03-06
