Chemical and physical oceanographic data collected from the OSHORO MARU in the North Pacific Ocean from June 11 to June 20, 1993. The dataset includes measurements of alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbon, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, salinity, temperature, and pH. These data were collected by Shuichi Watanabe of JAMSTEC as part of the PACIFICA international collaborative project.
Use Cases
- Analyzing ocean acidification trends based on pH and dissolved inorganic carbon measurements
- Studying nutrient cycling in the ocean interior based on ammonium, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, and silicate data
- Modeling carbon sequestration potential based on alkalinity and dissolved inorganic carbon profiles
- Investigating physical-chemical relationships in seawater based on concurrent temperature, salinity, and hydrostatic pressure measurements
Strengths
- Data covers a specific 10-day research cruise in June 1993
- Includes 12 key oceanographic variables including carbon chemistry and nutrients
- Part of the PACIFICA international synthesis project for Pacific Ocean interior carbon
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to a single cruise
