PACIFICA project data collected from the Hokusei Maru cruise between June 15 and July 5, 1992. Shuichi Watanabe of JAMSTEC; Mutsu Institute for Oceanography (MIO) gathered discrete samples and profiles using CTD and Coulometer instruments. These data include alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, nutrients, and physical oceanographic parameters.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean acidification based on pH and dissolved inorganic carbon measurements
- Analyzing nutrient cycling based on nitrate, phosphate, and silicate concentrations
- Studying carbon system dynamics based on alkalinity and dissolved inorganic carbon
- Correlating physical oceanographic conditions based on temperature, salinity, and hydrostatic pressure profiles
Strengths
- Data collected during a dedicated scientific cruise (HO95-2) in June-July 1992
- Includes multiple key carbon and nutrient parameters (ALKALINITY, DIC, pH, NITRATE, etc.)
- Part of an international collaborative synthesis project (PACIFICA) supported by PICES
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to a single cruise in 1992
