North Pacific Ocean, Philippine Sea, and South Pacific Ocean data collected from the Ryofu Maru II vessel between January and February 2005. The dataset includes discrete measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, alkalinity, temperature, salinity, nutrients, and chlorofluorocarbons. These data were collected by Sukeyoshi Takatani and Masao Ishii as part of the PACIFICA international project for synthesizing ocean interior carbon parameters.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean acidification impacts based on pH and dissolved inorganic carbon measurements
- Analyzing nutrient cycling in marine ecosystems based on nitrate, phosphate, and silicate data
- Studying chlorofluorocarbon distribution as ocean tracers based on CFC-11 and CFC-12 measurements
- Investigating phytoplankton biomass based on chlorophyll a and phaeopigment concentrations
- Calculating carbon isotope ratios for biogeochemical studies based on delta carbon-13 data
Strengths
- Data covers a specific cruise period from 2005-01-14 to 2005-02-25
- Includes over 20 measured variables, including key carbon cycle parameters
- Data collected as part of an international collaborative project (PACIFICA) supported by PICES
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale modeling
