PACIFICA project data includes dissolved inorganic carbon, alkalinity, chlorofluorocarbons, nutrients, and chlorophyll measurements from the North Pacific Ocean and Philippine Sea. Hitomi Kamiya and Masao Ishii collected these discrete sample and profile observations aboard RYOFU MARU from June 20 to July 31, 2000. The dataset supports international synthesis of ocean interior carbon and related parameters.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon sequestration based on dissolved inorganic carbon and alkalinity measurements
- Analyzing historical nutrient distributions based on nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, and silicate data
- Tracking chlorofluorocarbon tracers for ocean circulation studies based on CFC-11 and CFC-12 concentrations
- Investigating phytoplankton biomass based on chlorophyll a and phaeopigment measurements
- Calibrating ocean acidification models based on pH and total alkalinity profiles
Strengths
- Data covers a specific 42-day cruise in June-July 2000
- Includes over 20 measured variables including carbon, nutrients, tracers, and physical properties
- Part of an international collaborative project (PACIFICA) supported by PICES
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
