From August 7 to October 5, 1993, biological, chemical, and physical profile data were collected from the Hakurei Maru in the North and South Pacific Ocean. The data include alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbon, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, salinity, temperature, and pH. It was collected by researchers from the National Institute for Resources and Environment as part of the PACIFICA international collaborative project.
Use Cases
- Analyzing ocean acidification trends based on pH and dissolved inorganic carbon measurements.
- Studying marine nutrient cycles based on nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, and silicate content.
- Modeling ocean carbon storage based on alkalinity and dissolved inorganic carbon profiles.
- Investigating physical oceanographic properties based on temperature, salinity, and hydrostatic pressure data.
Strengths
- Data covers a specific two-month cruise in 1993, providing a temporal snapshot.
- Includes multiple related parameters (carbon, nutrients, physical properties) for integrated analysis.
- Collected as part of an international collaborative project (PACIFICA) supported by PICES.
Limitations
- Last updated 1993-10-05; freshness should be verified.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
