Chemical and physical oceanographic data collected from the Hokusei Maru in the North Pacific Ocean between June 20 and July 5, 1992. The dataset includes measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon, alkalinity, pH, salinity, temperature, nutrients, and dissolved oxygen. These data were collected by Shuichi Watanabe of Hokkaido University as part of the PACIFICA project.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean acidification trends based on pH and dissolved inorganic carbon measurements
- Analyzing nutrient cycling in marine ecosystems based on nitrate, phosphate, and silicate data
- Studying the relationship between physical and chemical ocean properties based on concurrent temperature, salinity, and oxygen readings
- Calibrating or validating regional carbon cycle models based on discrete sample profiles
Strengths
- Data includes multiple key ocean carbon and nutrient parameters measured concurrently
- Collection occurred during a specific research cruise (HO95-2) providing a coherent temporal and spatial snapshot
- Project affiliation (PACIFICA/PICES) suggests adherence to standardized international protocols
Limitations
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
- Last updated 1992-07-05 00:00:00; freshness should be verified
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
