From May 16 to May 25, 1996, this dataset contains discrete sample and profile observations of dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, alkalinity, temperature, salinity, and other biological and chemical variables collected from the WAKATAKA MARU in the North Pacific Ocean. The data were collected using CTD, Coulometer for DIC measurement, and bottle instruments during cruise PACIFICA_49WA19960516. It was contributed by researchers from Hokkaido University, the National Research Institute of Fisheries Science, and the University of Tokyo as part of the PACIFICA (PACIFic ocean Interior CArbon) international synthesis project.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon uptake and acidification based on dissolved inorganic carbon and pH measurements.
- Analyzing nutrient cycling and primary productivity based on nitrate, phosphate, silicate, and chlorophyll a data.
- Studying water mass properties and ocean physics based on concurrent temperature, salinity, and hydrostatic pressure profiles.
Strengths
- Data includes 12 measured variables, including alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbon, and multiple nutrients.
- Observations were collected over a focused 10-day period in May 1996, providing a temporal snapshot.
- Data collection involved specific instruments like a CTD and a Coulometer for DIC measurement.
Limitations
- Last updated 1996-05-25 00:00:00; freshness should be verified.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
