Discrete sample and profile data collected from the MIRAI research vessel in the North and South Pacific Ocean between November 21 and December 27, 1999. The dataset includes measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, temperature, salinity, nutrients, and chlorophyll. Data were collected by Takeshi Kawano of JAMSTEC and Masao Ishii of the Meteorological Research Institute as part of the PACIFICA international synthesis project.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon uptake based on dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and pH measurements
- Analyzing nutrient distributions (nitrate, phosphate, silicate) for marine productivity studies
- Studying ocean acidification trends using pH and DIC data
- Correlating chlorophyll and fluorescence measurements with biological activity
- Calibrating hydrographic models using CTD-derived salinity and temperature profiles
Strengths
- Data covers a specific cruise period from 1999-11-21 to 1999-12-27
- Includes multiple related chemical and physical parameters (e.g., DIC, nutrients, chlorophyll)
- Associated with an international collaborative project (PACIFICA) supported by PICES
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Last updated 1999-12-27; freshness should be verified
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
