From August 6 to October 5, 1993, discrete sample and profile data were collected in the Arctic Ocean, Kara Sea, and Laptev Sea during cruise 06ARKIX_4. The dataset includes measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon, chlorofluorocarbons, oxygen isotopes, nutrients, salinity, and temperature using CTD and bottle instruments. It was collected by researchers from the Alfred Wegener Institute and University of Gothenburg as part of the CARINA data synthesis project.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon uptake and storage based on dissolved inorganic carbon measurements.
- Analyzing chlorofluorocarbon (CFC-11, CFC-12, CFC-113) distributions as tracers for ocean circulation.
- Studying nutrient (nitrate, phosphate, silicate) dynamics in Arctic seas.
- Investigating water column structure and properties based on CTD-derived salinity and temperature profiles.
- Calibrating biogeochemical models using the internally consistent CARINA data synthesis.
Strengths
- Data covers a specific 2-month cruise in the Arctic Ocean, Kara Sea, and Laptev Sea.
- Includes multiple chemical and physical variables relevant for carbon system studies.
- Part of the CARINA project, which aims to produce an internally consistent merged dataset.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
- Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to a single 1993 cruise.
