North Pacific Ocean and South Pacific Ocean chemical and physical data collected from the Kaiyo vessel during cruise K93-07 from 1994-01-06 to 1994-02-05. The dataset includes dissolved inorganic carbon, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, salinity, and temperature measurements taken using CTD and bottle instruments. Data were collected by Ichio Asanuma of JAMSTEC and Masao Ishii of the Meteorological Research Institute as part of the PACIFICA international synthesis project.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon sequestration based on dissolved inorganic carbon measurements
- Analyzing nutrient distributions and ocean productivity based on nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, and silicate data
- Studying ocean temperature and salinity profiles for climate research based on CTD-derived potential temperature and salinity
- Investigating dissolved oxygen levels for marine ecosystem health assessments
Strengths
- Data covers a specific month-long cruise in 1994, providing a focused temporal snapshot
- Includes multiple key oceanographic parameters: dissolved inorganic carbon, oxygen, nutrients, temperature, and salinity
- Originates from an international collaborative project (PACIFICA) supported by PICES, suggesting coordinated data collection
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Data is from a single cruise in 1994; temporal and spatial coverage is limited
