Acoustic and net sampling data from the 2021 TEMPO research voyage between 55°E and 80°E in the Southern Ocean. Observations were collected by the Marine National Facility RV Investigator from 29 January to 24 March 2021. The dataset provides krill biomass density estimates derived from a calibrated EK80 echosounder and biological samples from a Rectangular Midwater Trawl.
Use Cases
- Modeling krill spatial distribution based on acoustic transect data mentioned in the description
- Estimating biomass density for ecosystem management based on CCAMLR standard protocols
- Correlating acoustic backscatter with physical krill measurements based on complementary net sampling data
Strengths
- Data collected during a dedicated 55-day research voyage (29 January to 24 March 2021)
- Integrated observations from two instrument types: a calibrated EK80 echosounder and a Rectangular Midwater Trawl
- Analysis follows a defined standard protocol (CCAMLR SC-CAMLR, 2000)
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific survey region (55°E to 80°E)
