Description
541,074 individual dust particles generated from 55 soil samples collected across major dust source regions in China, including the Taklimakan Desert, Gobi Desert, Hunshandake Sandy Land, and Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. The dataset was created by Long Zhang and published on figshare in May 2026. It contains morphology and composition data analyzed via energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.
Use Cases
Analyze dust particle morphology and composition based on CCSEM-EDX spectroscopy data
Compare mineral classification results based on the two different classification methods provided
Study the geographic distribution of dust properties based on the 55 sample site locations
Model dust emission and transport processes based on particle characteristics from specific source regions
Strengths
Contains 541,074 individual dust particle records
Sourced from 55 distinct soil samples across four major Chinese regions
Provides two different mineral classification rule sets for comparison
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count for individual files is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Provenance
Source
Long Zhang
Collection Method
Generated through saltation-sandblasting processes from collected surface soil samples and analyzed via CCSEM-EDX.
