The Pacific Region ERAF provides a comprehensive approach for assessing all threats to marine ecosystems by evaluating cumulative risk from multiple activities to multiple ecosystem components. This project applies the Level 2 Risk Assessment framework to the SGaan Kinghlas-Bowie Seamount Marine Protected Area (SKB MPA) to determine relative risk from anthropogenic activities. The dataset is published by Fisheries and Oceans Canada under the OGL-CA-2.0 license.
Use Cases
- Evaluate cumulative risk to marine ecosystems based on the Level 2 Risk Assessment framework.
- Assess feasibility and suitability of risk assessment frameworks for specific marine protected areas.
- Compare risk from multiple anthropogenic activities to multiple ecosystem components.
- Support ecosystem-based management decisions for the SGaan Kinghlas-Bowie Seamount MPA.
Strengths
- Framework is described as improving upon international and national best practices in risk assessment.
- Data is provided by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, a governmental authority.
- Files are available in multiple formats including DOCX, CSV, and HTML.
Limitations
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
