2573 patients were enrolled across five randomized controlled trials comparing implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy plus medical treatment to medical treatment alone for non-ischemic heart failure. The meta-analysis, authored by Zhenhua Xing, derived pooled risk ratios from PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Central databases. It found ICD therapy combined with medical treatment was associated with a significantly lower risk for all-cause mortality (Risk ratio: 0.83; 95% CI 0.71 to 0.97).
