Eleven derivatives of a triphenylamine-pyrimidine dye were studied using DFT and TDDFT calculations to improve performance as solar cell sensitizers. The work, by Jieqiong Yang of Tianjin University, examined the effects of introducing heterocyclic rings and an amino-ethyl-amino group on electronic and photophysical properties. Two of the eleven dyes were identified as having the best potential for solar cell applications.
