Eight hypercholesterolemic individuals with metabolic syndrome were compared to eight metabolically healthy controls in a clinical study. The research, conducted by Laura Alvarez Jimenez at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, found that a bout of exercise reduced postprandial triglyceridemia by 46% in healthy controls but not in the metabolic syndrome group. Statin withdrawal in the metabolic syndrome group increased postprandial triglyceridemia by an average of 65%.
