A unique Meyerozyma sp. strain YLG18 was isolated, capable of producing 2-phenylethanol via Ehrlich and Shikimate pathways. Response surface methodology optimization increased production to 2.55 g/L, a 104% improvement, and in situ product recovery further boosted it to 3.20 g/L. The research, led by Fengxue Xin of Nanjing Tech University, identified key genes like AroM and an aspartate aminotransferase involved in the synthesis pathways.
