Noor Hamza presents experimental data for a high-sensitivity refractive index sensor using a single-mode–multimode–single-mode fiber structure. The sensor performance was examined with coreless fiber diameters of 100 and 50 μm and three different tune lengths of 20, 25, and 30 mm, achieved via chemical etching with hydrofluoric acid. The highest sensitivity attained was about 1012 nm/RIU with a 50 μm diameter.
