Description
Cairns, Australia hosts experimental data from nine Open Top Chambers measuring ozone concentrations, environmental conditions, biomass, and leaf traits for ten tropical tree species. The study, supported by NERC project NE/R001812/1, was conducted between July 2020 and November 2022. Measurements include air temperature, relative humidity, photosynthetically active radiation, and calculated phytotoxic O3 dose (POD).
Use Cases
Model ozone impacts on tropical vegetation by correlating phytotoxic O3 dose (POD) with total dry-biomass and leaf nitrogen content across species.
Analyze environmental drivers of leaf functional traits, such as antioxidant capacity and leaf mass per unit area, using air temperature and relative humidity data from the chambers.
Assess biomass partitioning patterns in response to varying ozone concentrations recorded across the nine Open Top Chambers.
Compare species-specific responses, like those of Theobroma cacao or Syzygium gustavioides, using total phenolic content and photosynthetically active radiation measurements.
Strengths
Data covers ten distinct tropical tree species, including Brachychyton acerifolius and Theobroma cacao.
Measurements span nine controlled experimental environments (Open Top Chambers).
Includes derived metrics like the calculated phytotoxic O3 dose (POD) from the DO3SE model.
Limitations
Sample size and row count are unknown, limiting statistical power assessment.
Geographic scope is limited to a single experimental site in Cairns, Australia.
Data collection ended in November 2022, potentially lacking more recent observations.
