Four regional Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) atlases covering the California coastline provide GIS data for shoreline habitats, sensitive biological resources, and human-use resources. The dataset consolidates maps compiled between 1998 and <2010 by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information to support oil spill planning and response as mandated by the Clean Water Act. Source data ranges from 1959 to 2009, with most data from the 1980s, 1990s, and up to 2009.
Requires GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS) to fully utilize the geodatabase, .mxd, and shapefile formats. Data is provided in legacy formats like ARC Export .e00 and MOSS format.
