Description
Raw images of comet C/ISON (2012 S1) acquired by the Medium Resolution Visible CCD (MRI) instrument. The dataset contains clear-filter, CN, OH, and dust continuum images from 17 January through 06 March 2013 during the Cruise 3 phase of the EPOXI mission. The data was published by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Use Cases
Analyze comet morphology and activity based on clear-filter images
Study the distribution of specific molecules like CN and OH based on their named filter images
Investigate dust emission and coma structure based on dust continuum images
Process and calibrate raw astronomical images from a specific space mission instrument
Strengths
Images were acquired by a specific instrument (Medium Resolution Visible CCD) on a NASA mission
Data covers a defined observation period from 17 January to 06 March 2013
Includes multiple filter types (clear, CN, OH, dust continuum) for comparative analysis
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
