Version 3.1 results from a 4km-resolution regional-scale biogeochemistry and sediments model of the Great Barrier Reef. The model ran in near-real-time mode, updating daily, until January 2024 when sensor damage halted river-flow forcing. The dataset is provided by the Australian Ocean Data Network.
Use Cases
- Analyze sediment transport patterns based on the regional-scale sediments model
- Study biogeochemical cycles in coral reef environments based on the 4km-resolution model results
- Monitor near-real-time changes in reef conditions based on the daily updating model
- Assess the impact of river catchment inputs on reef chemistry based on Furnas relationships for wet and dry tropics rivers
Strengths
- Model results are at a 4km-resolution regional scale
- Dataset was updated daily in near-real-time mode
- Results are based on version 2.0 of a 4km-resolution hydrodynamic model
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- The model's river-flow forcing dataset was lost in January 2024, limiting temporal coverage
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
