Version 4.0 of the 4km-resolution regional-scale hydrodynamic model for the Great Barrier Reef, succeeding the GBR4_H2p0 model as the best available eReefs results for its timespan. The model ran in hindcast mode and is complete, forced by atmospheric, ocean boundary, tide, and river data. Results are aggregated by the Australian Ocean Data Network and last updated in April 2026.
Use Cases
- Analyzing regional-scale ocean currents and water properties based on the 4km-resolution hydrodynamic model.
- Studying the impact of river discharge on reef ecosystems based on the 64 modeled river boundaries.
- Validating other ocean models or satellite data using the hindcast simulation results.
- Investigating tidal influences on the Great Barrier Reef using the integrated global TPXO tide model.
Strengths
- Model results are described as 'complete' for its hindcast timespan.
- Forced with high-resolution atmospheric data from the BARRA regional reanalysis.
- Incorporates measured stream flow and temperature data for 64 rivers.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
- Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to data_gov_au.
