Description
A source of dekadal (10-day) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) indicators for Eswatini, aggregated by sub-national administrative units from NASA MODIS collection 6.1 satellite data. Produced by the World Food Programme (WFP), the records include current vegetation health, long-term averages, and percentage anomalies updated as of March 2026.
Use Cases
Monitoring drought conditions by analyzing the `viq` (NDVI anomaly) column over time
Assessing agricultural productivity trends using the `vim` (10-day NDVI) values
Comparing current vegetation health against historical baselines using the `vim_lta` column
Strengths
Derived from NASA MODIS collection 6.1 Aqua and Terra satellite data
Includes `n_pixels` count for each unit to indicate the data density of the aggregate
Standardized Pcode references allow for immediate joining with other WFP administrative datasets
Limitations
Spatial resolution is limited to sub-national administrative aggregates rather than raw pixel data
Temporal coverage start date is not explicitly defined in the metadata
