Description
2020 livestock distribution data for Ethiopia at a 0.05 x 0.05 degree resolution, covering six species: buffalo, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens. This is the fourth version (GLW 4) of the Global Livestock of the World dataset, reflecting recently compiled and harmonized subnational data. The dataset is provided by the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Center (ICPAC) in GEOTIFF format.
Use Cases
Modeling livestock disease spread based on species-specific density maps.
Assessing regional food security and agricultural resource allocation based on livestock distribution.
Conducting environmental impact studies on land use based on animal population density.
Creating baseline maps for climate change vulnerability assessments for pastoralist communities.
Strengths
Provides data for six distinct livestock species, enabling multi-species analysis.
Offers a relatively high spatial resolution of 0.05 x 0.05 degrees for detailed mapping.
Represents the fourth and most recently harmonized version (GLW 4) of this global data series.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
