Description
A land suitability map for commercial sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) cultivation in the Cundinamarca department of Colombia, produced at a 1:100,000 scale. The dataset results from a 2016 inter-administrative contract between UPRA and the Cundinamarca Governor's Office, incorporating biophysical, socioeconomic, and socio-ecosystem components. It categorizes areas into High, Medium, Low, Not Suitable, and Legally Excluded aptitude classes.
Use Cases
Classifying land aptitude for sugarcane using the `Aptitud` column and spatial geometry from `the_geom`.
Calculating total suitable area in hectares by aggregating the `Área (ha)` column filtered by `Aptitud` categories.
Mapping suitability zones by joining the `Aptitud` and `Gridcode` attributes to the `the_geom` polygons.
Analyzing regional distribution by filtering data for the `Departamento` of Cundinamarca using its `Cod_Departamento`.
Strengths
Includes a geospatial geometry column (`the_geom`) for mapping and spatial analysis.
Provides explicit area calculations in hectares (`Área (ha)`) for each polygon.
Categorizes suitability with clear, defined classes (`Aptitud`) including legal exclusions.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale analysis.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
