Description
December 2018 land suitability assessment for commercial blackberry (Rubus glaucus) cultivation in the Nariño department of Colombia at a 1:100,000 scale. The map results from applying a methodology integrating biophysical, socioeconomic, and socio-ecosystem components under contract 222 of 2017 between UPRA and the University of Nariño. It classifies zones into high, medium, low, unsuitable, and legally excluded categories for blackberry production.
Use Cases
Classifying land suitability (Aptitud) for blackberry farming using geospatial polygons (the_geom) and area calculations (Área (ha)).
Mapping and aggregating suitable zones by calculating total area (Área (ha)) per suitability category (Aptitud) for regional agricultural planning.
Joining this zoning data with other geospatial layers using the geometry column (the_geom) or grid identifiers (Gridcode, Consecutivo) for multi-criteria analysis.
Strengths
Assessment integrates biophysical, socioeconomic, and socio-ecosystem components for a multi-faceted suitability model.
Suitability is categorized into five distinct classes (Aptitud Alta, Media, Baja, No Apta, Exclusiones legales) with clear definitions.
Data is provided in multiple machine-readable formats including CSV, JSON, XML, and RDF.
Limitations
Row count and total dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale analyses.
