Description
A land suitability map for technified Tahiti lemon cultivation, produced by the Quindío Governorate and UPRA under agreement 275 of 2016. The dataset categorizes land into five aptitude levels—high, medium, low, not suitable, and legal exclusion—based on physical, socio-ecosystem, and socio-economic conditions. It was validated at a 1:25,000 scale to guide agricultural policy and rural planning in the department as of December 2019.
Use Cases
Classify land aptitude for citrus farming using the Aptitud column and spatial geometry from The geom.
Calculate total suitable area per municipality by aggregating the Área (ha) column, filtered by Aptitud and Municipio.
Join with other regional datasets using the Código Dane municipio or Código departamento columns for broader socio-economic analysis.
Create visual maps of suitability zones by rendering the The geom column colored by the Aptitud category.
Strengths
Includes explicit area calculations in hectares via the Área (ha) column.
Provides a detailed, legally-informed classification scheme with five distinct Aptitud categories.
Based on a validated methodology applied at a detailed 1:25,000 scale for the Quindío department.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale modeling.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality and completeness require manual inspection after download.
The last update timestamp is 2026-05-18, which is in the future relative to the data's reference date of December 2019, suggesting potential metadata inconsistency.
